This specially produced bookplate bears the genuine signatures of Stalag Luft 3 escapers Oliver Philpot and Harry ‘Wings’ Day. The bookplate features an original graphite drawing on sepia recycled card by Steve Teasdale and will fit most books on The Great Escape and The Wooden Horse escape. Oliver Philpot was one of the three prisoners who escaped underneath the famous vaulting horse. Together with Roger Bushell, Wings Day planned and organised the "Great Escape". On 24 March 1944, Day and 75 others escaped and he made his way to Stettin (Szczecin). Disguised in a tailored uniform to look like a civilian suit, together with another escapee (Pawel Tobolski), who was dressed as a German soldier, the pair travelled by train, through Berlin, reaching Stettin on the evening of the next day. There they sought help from some French workers and were taken to a workers' camp. However, they were betrayed by an informer in the camp and arrested the following day.
