This 1942 1st edition copy of Brian Lane’s Spitfire (The experiences of a fighter pilot) is in very rare good condition for its age. The hardly seen whole dustjacket has a small amount of chipping and creasing with some tears ( one of which has been repaired with a sticker at some point ). The book has been enhanced with an original pencil drawing of Brian ‘ Sandy’ Lane ( called BJ Ellan in 1942 for censorship purposes ) by Steve Teasdale on the title page. The book has been signed inside by fellow 19 Squadron spitfire pilot George Unwin, next to a photograph of the squadron during the Battle of Britain. ‘Grumpy’ Unwin flew with Brian Lane during the Battle of Britain and is mentioned throughout the story as ‘ Grumpy’. He was one of the more famous of 19 squadron pilots to fly with Brian Lane.
This is an extremely collectable copy of this rare wartime first edition, written by one of the few who was there and signed by his squadron colleague. Sadly, Brian Lane did not survive the war.
