This large 1969 Hardback by Christopher Shores and Hans Ring chronicles in detail the air battles in the western desert from 1940-1942. It features day by day accounts of what happened and who was fighting in the air over North Africa. There are a huge amount of photographs and it also features fold out maps of the area. This book is never easy to source, we believe owing to a fire at a warehouse which destroyed a lot of the stock. This collectable book has been made into a true one- off copy with the addition of two large original pencil drawing remarques by Steve Teasdale. The first features a P-40 of 112 Shark Squadron which has been signed by fighter aces Peter Ayerst and Billy Drake. Both pilots flew in the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain before moving into the Western Desert, Ayerst on Spitfires & Drake on P-40’s. Billy Drake became the second highest P-40 ace of the desert behind Killer Caldwell. The second drawing of fighter ace Neville Duke ( another desert fighter ace) comes with his genuine signature mounted underneath. The book has some spotting on the top of the page ends and the dustjacket has a slightly sunned spine but overall it is very good condition.
