Henry Reginald Clarke joined 74 Sqn, then 66 Sqn and 610 Sqn on Spitfires. In September 1940 Clarke collided with another spitfire and bailed out, being knocked unconscious. He awoke to find himself hanging upside down, suspended by one parachute strap insecurely fastened around one leg. He managed to pull himself upright just before he hit the ground.
