This 1989 First Edition hardback is in excellent condition with just a slight suggestion of fading to the spine. This unique copy includes a large original pencil drawing remarque of parachute regiment legend Alastair Pearson by Steve Teasdale. Professionally mounted underneath the portrait is a copy of his DSO award from 1943 which has been signed in person by Alastair Pearson.
Alastair Pearson, who was born in Glasgow, served with the 6th Battalion of the Highland Light Infantry before joining the British Army's Parachute Regiment. In 1942, he received the Military Cross for his actions during Operation Torch in North Africa. In addition, at the age of 27, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and given command of the 1st Parachute Battalion, becoming the youngest commanding officer in the British Army.
He received the Distinguished Service Order and three bars for his actions during the Battle of Tamera, the invasion of Sicily, and his contributions during the Battle of Normandy. One of the most highly regarded soldiers of the Parachute Regiment and the British Army who served in the Second World War, he left the Army at the end of the war to become a farmer in Gartocharn on the shores of Loch Lomond.
A great story of a phenomenal fighting leader from WW2.
