In 1938 RAF Abu Sueir was home to No.4 Flying Training School, the only training school outside the UK. Many famous pilots were trained there, including some who then flew in the subsequent Battle of Britain and bomber war. This menu is signed by more than 20 personnel based at the training school and could quite possibly include signatures from Battle of Britain pilots. More research is required on this amazing piece of history. No. 4 FTS were training pilots to fly Hawker Harts and Hawker Audaux. The menu features a fantastic King’s Crown badge with a pyramid in the centre. This badge was given permission for use not long beforehand. All signatures are in pencil. The menu is slightly grubby with chipped edges but is in remarkable condition for it’s age.
