This is a letter home from Stalag Luft 3 of Great Escape fame. It is written in pencil by W/O George Dormer Anderson, an RAF airman who was shot down by flak over Denmark in a Strirling Bomber on 15/5/1942. The aircraft ditched into the sea with two crew killed and four taken prisoner. Anderson was incarcerated in Stalag Luft 3 and was there during the Great Escape of March 1943. We presume W/O Anderson was aware of the tunnels? Was he taking an active role in security or acting as a penguin to hide the sand? Further research is needed to try to establish if he had any role to play in the escape. His prisoner number is 790. This letter, after the escape, has been heavily censored by either German or British censors. Does he mention the escape or the murders? The remainder of the letter mentions exams he is taking and he also talks of repatriation. The letter is stamped Luft 3 and passed by German and Uk censors. Please look at the photos carefully for condition. A superb piece of history which would look amazing mounted next to a print or as part of a Great Escaoe related collection. .
