We believe this to be an early C-type flying helmet with blanked ears. The AM stamp is there but not easy to read but certainly shows 22C/879. The leather is fairly supple although there is some crumbling at the top of the helmet and some marking in places. The studs are all present and working. There are a couple of minor tears inside but the leather is supple and fairly clean. There is some writing on the strap which looks like Robert’s and a service number but it is difficult to make out. The name Roberts is clearly written inside the helmet. The goggles came attached to the helmet. They are not stamped, the lenses are intact and clean and are definitely tinted. We are not sure whether they are night vision goggles or anti- dust motorcycle goggles. AI suggests that the helmet may have been for a glider pilot but we think it is a standard early pattern C-type which has been modified for post war use. We may be wrong!
