Like most of my customers I would like to own an original Cuthbert Orde portrait drawing from the Battle of Britain. If, however I ever came across one I doubt I could afford to buy it anyway. I thought the next best thing would be to have a go at creating a copy of some of them myself. This drawing of Brian Kingcombe is just like the one drawn by Orde in 1940, during the Battle of Britain, whilst Kingcombe was flying spitfires with 92 Squadron. I have made it as close to the original as possible, using charcoal and white highlights on grey Ingres pastel paper. I have even written his name and Squadron in the same style as the original along the bottom. The only difference is that it is not signed by Orde. The paper is roughly A3 in size. I also have a Brian Kingcombe signature to go with the portrait if required at extra cost. This is an affordable way to own the original Orde image.
