This piece of history was purchased from a dealer who knew the soldier who found this flask in the Black Forest hunting lodge belonging to Reichmarshal Herman Goering. The flask is engraved Berlin 1940, which is when Goering was made Reichmarshal by Hitler. The hinged screw top has been engraved with a swastika and there is a golden Reich eagle engraved on the glass. The removable base/cup features a monogram we are not familiar with. The cork seal is in excellent condition. The flask itself has a number of small dents and dings and is well worn. Whilst the dealer was convinced that the flask belonged to Goering (still quite possible) we are more inclined to think it possibly came from a member of his hunting party. The veteran soldier who brought the item back was a member of an army reconnaissance team who were hunting Nazi officials. There were other items, including Goering’s stag wax seal, in this collection. The dealer’s father bought the soldier’s whole flat and its contents many years ago. There is a letter of provenance from the dealer which includes the name and address of the veteran ( this has been blurred out of the photograph shown but is perfectly readable on the letter ). The name and address of the dealer is also included. This is a rare piece of Nazi memorabilia as it is but to think it may have belonged to Hitler’s deputy is mind blowing. The veteran soldier requires more research, as does the engraved monogram. This is a fabulous piece of history.
